She established a Mission Center at Her Own Expense

Deaconess Oh Gye In, 47, director of the Young San World Mission Center, has devoted herself to missionary work for 13 years at her own expense. She says, "I will never forget my first meeting with Dr. David Yonggi Cho via TV."

Deaconess Oh emigrated to Chicago, Illinois - USA on September 12th, 1985. In the beginning, it was very confusing living in a foreign land where everything was unfamiliar. She didn't know what to do. But she happened to "meet" Dr. David Yonggi Cho through channel 38 on Chicago Christian TV. She was very surprised when she looked closely at the TV screen and exclaimed, "Oh, he is a Korean! A Korean is speaking on TV!"

Dr. Cho was expressively and passionately preaching on TV and said, "The LORD said to Abraham, 'lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring.' If you accept Jesus and the Holy Spirit, if you depend on the Holy Spirit, YOU will also receive the blessing like Abraham."

She was very impressed with his speech although this was the first time she had seen Dr. Cho. She felt as if he were speaking just to her. After that, she prayed to God and learned to depend on the Holy Spirit. Then God guided her to open a Korean restaurant. She was sure that God was with her when she opened her Korean restaurant, "Han Guk Gwan," although her family didn't agree with her decision.

It was very difficult to manage a restaurant: cooking, ordering food, setting tables, and dishwashing. Everything was new to her. But she always said, "I accept You, Holy Spirit. I welcome You, I agree with You."

Deaconess Oh started to go to a Full Gospel church and fasted and prayed for a week. Three months passed since she began attending church. Then she heard that Dr. Cho's sermons would no longer be broadcast due to financial problems. She said, "I was very sad. I could not sleep because of thinking about this difficult matter."

She said, "I really want to give the good news to all people through Dr. Cho's sermons." So she established the Young San World Mission Center, overcoming many hurdles. It was not an easy job. In February 1989, all the equipment in the Mission Center was stolen. She bought new equipment, but it was burned up in a fire spread from the house next door. But she depended on the Holy Spirit all the more and remembered Dr. Cho's message entitled, "Positive Thinking." She never gave up hope.

Deaconess Oh said, "Dr. Cho prayed for me to devote myself more to this work." So she is now broadcasting Dr. Cho's sermons through radio and television at her own expense of almost US $4,000 every month. She also distributes Dr. Cho's tapes and books.

Through her ministry to the Lord, tired and desperate Koreans in Chicago can be comforted when they listen to Dr. Cho's sermons. Deaconess Oh Gye In can be compared with Priscilla in Act 18, who devoted her life on behalf of the kingdom of God.
