Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
A Life That Was Lost and Is Found, Was Dead and Is Alive Again
Luke 15:11 ~ 15:24

2008-06-22

Introduction: Teachings of all religions are searching for how to find oneself. Where did I come from? Why am I here on earth? Where am I going? There are both right and wrong ways to find oneself. If we have lost our way, we want to know where we have made a wrong turn. We desperately need to find the way back, but it is useless if we have no plan.

1. The reason that the prodigal son was lost.
    1) Self-centeredness-he was tired of serving his father.
    2) Full of greed-he coveted his father´s fortune and worldly pleasure (Lk 15:12).
    3) His life was driven by selfishness and greed.
¨Ø He left his father´s house.    ¨è He squandered his wealth in wild living (Lk 15:13).
    4) The results of losing the way (Lk 15:14-17).
¨Ø Doomed to famine and poverty.    ¨è Feeding pigs.
¨é Severe hunger, cold, pain, and despair.

2. All humankind that are descendants of Adam are prodigal sons.
    1) The reason why Adam lost his way-humanism. He wanted to be independent from
        God (Jer 2:13).
    2) Greedy desire-he wanted to be like God (Ge 3:4-5; Isa 44:21).
    3) After he became a slave to Satan and sin, he left Eden.
    4) The results of losing the way-sin, corruption, disease, the curse, poverty, suffering,
        and death (Ge 3:17-19).

3. The prodigal son that finds his way back home.
    1) Repentance-he realized his faults and despair and turned back (Lk 15:18-20).
    2) He returned home to his father.
    3) He humbled himself and was willing to serve as one of the hired men (Lk 15:21).

4. The way for us to return.
    1) Repent of our selfishness and every kind of sin (Isa 55:7).
    2) Accept Jesus who is the only way to the Father God (Jn 14:6; 5:24).
    3) Surrender to God and serve Him with a broken and humble heart
        (Isa 57:15; Mk 12:30).

5. A life that was lost and is found, was dead and is alive again (Lk 15:22-24).
    1) The best robe-a robe of righteousness (Ro 3:23-24).
    2) A ring-we were sealed by the Holy Spirit (Eph 1:13).
    3) Sandals-the right to become sons of God (Gal 4:7).
    4) The fattened calf-The Threefold blessing (3Jn 1:2).
        - God is pleased (Lk 15:24).

Conclusion: Today, we suffer from sin, emptiness, trouble, suffering, and death-because we left our Father´s house. Death comes when we leave the source of life. Darkness comes when we turn our backs on the light. Water will go bad when we leave the source of the fountain. In order to live again, we should repent and believe in Jesus, and march toward God with uplifted hands. The spiritually blind will receive sight, and spiritual life will be restored.
