Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
If You Win You Live, but If You Lose You Perish
Exodus 17:8 ~ 17:13

2009-09-20

Exodus 17:8-13, NIV

8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.
9 Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands."
10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill.
11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.
12 When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset.
13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.

Introduction: The incident of the Israelites?attack by the Amalekites.

1. Our Amalekites and our weapons.

1) Sinful Amalekites—the blood of Jesus (1Jn 1:7; 3:8).
2) Temptations from the world and the devil—the Holy Spirit (1Co 6:11; Jas 4:7).
3) Diseased Amalekites—the wounds of Jesus (Mt 8:16-17).
4) Cursed Amalekites—the crucifixion of Jesus (Gal 3:13-14).
5) Death and hell of the Amalekites—the resurrection of Jesus (Jn 11:25-26).

2. Our battlefield against the Amalekites.

1) Thinking and envisioning (Pr 4:23; Php 4:13).
2) Looking and dreaming (Eph 3:20).
3) Faith (Mk 9:23).
4) The Living Word (Pr 18:21).

3. Our attitude when fighting against the Amalekites.

1) Never retreat (Heb 10:35-38).
2) Depend on the Holy Spirit and the Word (Jn 14:16; Heb 4:12).
3) Be patient, and do not lose heart (Jas 1:3-4; 1Jn 4:4).
4) Pray earnestly (Ps 50:15; Php 4:6-7).
5) Expect a miracle (Job 5:9; Ro 8:32).

Conclusion: We must win every day in our fight against our enemy, the Amalekites. If we lose we perish.
