Prologue
"If the civilization had started in the southern hemisphere,
what would the pictures of earth have looked like?
Would they have the southern hemisphere in the upper
part?" Thinking about the idea, I smile. The flight
attendants are busy preparing for landing. Having
left Seoul last night, we arrive in Australia in the
morning. Big island, Australia. Gold Coast, located
north of Sydney, is a world famous recreation area.
As such, many young people are engaged in tourism-related
jobs. Australia is beautiful enough to use 'Environment
Olympics' as its slogan. Gold Coast is said to be
the most beautiful place in the country. I wonder
if the people here will ever be able to realize God's
touch that made this place so beautiful.
New Identity, New Spirit, New Vision, and New People
As society grows and culture develops, values change. However, there is something that should not change. It is the truth in the Bible, the Gospel of the life of Christ. Pastor Cho stressed the importance of new values to Australian Christians living without many difficulties. Was he sorry that Christianity in Australia remained stagnant despite the fact that the country, having started as a Christian country, has been worshipping Christ? Or was he frustrated with Christians who compromise attitudes toward today's culture? Pastor Cho emphasized that new spirits from new values and new dreams make new people. He also noted that the beginning is in Jesus Christ who is our unchangeable standard of value. He pointed out that we would be able to open a new world if we see the world with new values and that our problems could be solved when we see them from new views. A Changing Christian Country
Late September, while people were busy preparing for
the Olympics in Sydney, the Gold Coast was adding
vitality thanks to an Asian pastor's strong message.
They were being reborn as little revolutionists of
Christ to make a new society full of the love of Christ.
New challenges were more strongly directed to the
young people. After only a week, many young people
in Gold Coast realized what real life is, what real
rest and relaxation are, and what the challenges are
for a new life are. They also realized that the beginning
of their new values, a new spirit, a new vision, and
becoming new people came from the charismatic appeal
of an Asian pastor. The young people who were born
again on the beautiful Gold Coast gave praise and
thanks to God.
